EMLex Colloquium Explores the Future of Interdisciplinary Lexicography
On May 22, 2025, the Leibniz-Institut für Deutsche Sprache (IDS) in Mannheim hosted the EMLex Colloquium under the theme Interdisciplinary Lexicography. The event brought together scholars from around the world to discuss cutting-edge developments in digital lexicography, language didactics, and the societal role of dictionaries.
The day began with a session on Technological and Methodological Aspects of Digital Lexicography, featuring talks by Sabine Tittel, María José Domínguez Vázquez, and Sascha Wolfer, who explored topics ranging from AI-driven lexicography to machine learning applications in vocabulary development.
The second session focused on Language Didactics and Learner’s Dictionaries, with contributions from Yamada Shigeru, Christine Ganslmayer & Martina Nied Curcio, and Dóra Pődör, highlighting the pedagogical impact of lexicographic tools across diverse linguistic contexts.
In the afternoon, the theme shifted to Language Change, Norms, and Society, with engaging presentations by Kate Burridge, Marco Gierke, and Carolin Müller-Spitzer, addressing the dynamic relationship between dictionaries, language norms, and social issues such as gender.
The colloquium concluded with a lively final discussion reinforcing the collaborative spirit of the EMLex community.
